Trellis: A smile is worth a thousand words

Now that BESiDE researchers have completed their work within the project partner care homes, they asked  to help say thank you to the residents.  Trellis provides therapeutic gardening sessions to help people take care of their physical, emotional, and social wellbeing.  In addition gardening can also provide education and training opportunities, not only horticulture skills but life skills, literacy, and numeracy.

During the sessions that have taken place so far, residents, staff and BESiDE researchers have worked together planting individual bulbs and larger outdoor planters for all to enjoy. Due to the nature of the researchers’ work within the care homes, a long time is spent building relationships with the residents and staff alike. It was a great way to say thank you to everyone who made us feel welcome and participated in our invaluable research for improving care home built environments.

It was without a doubt one of the most rewarding parts of our involvement with the care homes as seeing everyone fully engaged with a smile on their face was a wonderful way to say goodbye.
